Keyword selection is the number one thing we need to do before diving into ASO or ASA.
Start here: Initial keyword search
Need to create a bundle of keywords that are relevant to you app. That list should be no shorter than 100-150 keywords. You can create it by:
- brainstorming
- checking competitor’s metadata
- check in App Stores auto suggestions
Using these methods you should get no less than 40 keywords that are relevant to you application. We will later use these keywords to broaden the list by using ASO tools.
ASO tools you can use to generate semantic dictionary:
- SAP = search ads popularity. It is THE MAIN metric you should judge a keyword. The lowest value is 5, the highest is 100. The higher the value the better.
- Keyword Suggestions based on inputed keywords
- Competitor’s keywords:
- Ranked keywords
- keywords that you rank for, but not used in app’s metadata
- keywords your competitors rank for, but you don’t
- AI Generated keywords
- they would be semantically close to keywords you initially provided
- Longtail keyword generator
- Top keywords in App’s Category
- Top growing keywords
Keyword selection metrics:
After you create a list of keywords you need to find keywords that people are using in search. You can filter keywords by relevance, volume and competition.
